Assistant Cook Job Description
White River Academy in Delta, UT is actively seeking a hardworking and motivated part-time Cook Assistant to provide meal preparation and serving for our residential male students ages 12-18.

ABOUT WHITE RIVER ACADEMY
White River Academy is a leading therapeutic boarding school for adolescent boys ages 12 to
18. Our highly experienced team of therapists and staff members partner with families to help their sons heal through a wide range of trauma, compulsions or addictions.

Though your Assistant Cook role is extremely satisfying, it also has its challenges. You have to adhere to industry protocols and assure you maintain discipline among students. Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each student, family and staff member you work with. You also maintain proper professional boundaries at all times. You must display exemplary behavior and follow employee guidelines as all of our team members are a direct beacon of the culture we have here at White River Academy.

Requirements
The ideal candidate for this position is someone with patience, understanding and shows strong leadership skills. This candidate may have grown children, or worked with teen-age children for some time in another similar setting. You should have a passion for working with struggling boys and have the capacity to manage the complexities that angry, rebellious, hurting, and disrespectful teenage boys can create. You must be able and willing to serve as an authority for these boys, and as a mentor while showcasing the values and mission of White River Academy.

The ideal candidate should possess most, if not all of the following skills:

Assist in preparing foods in accordance with White River Academy's policies, menus, and recipes.

Follow recipes and/or instructions in the preparation of food items.

Prepare meals and snacks in a manner that retains nutrients.
-
Modify menus and recipes as needed to meet the allergy, developmental, medical and religious needs of the clients.
-
Understand workflows, priorities, and the use of timelines and deadlines.
-
Ensure food tastes good and looks appealing.
-
Ensure that there is an ample amount of food in order for clients to meet their nutritional needs
-

Assist in purchasing food and supplies necessary to prepare the planned menus for the number of enrolled clients and program employees.

Adhere to the current purchase order policy and procedures.
-
Assist in purchasing equipment as needed.

Assist in planning meals far enough in advance in order to minimize the need for food substitutions. If a substitution is necessary the assistant cook helps to purchase and serve food of equivalent nutritional value.

Maintain established standards of sanitation and safety in preparation and storage, as set by the local and state health departments.

Maintain an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen.

Maintain an organized and sanitary working environment.
-
Utilize safe food handling techniques in all applications.

Maintain budget, cost control, and inventory systems base on White River Academy's procedures, including records of attendance, food production and service.

Maintain proper quantities of production with appropriate rotation of product.

Assure the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment.
-
Appropriately utilizes commercial cooking equipment.
-
Help identify equipment needs for food preparation and service.
-

Participate in nutritional education activities for clients, employees, and parents or legal guardians.

Attend and participate in training, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.

Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities.
