Teacher Job Description

White River Academy in Delta, is hiring a full-time licensed teacher who is responsible for providing educational services for classes of adolescents experiencing mental health issues, communication challenges, or family conflict. The teacher works with these young men to ensure they have access to an education that will help them to prepare for their future, and be successful members of their communities. 

Though your role as a Teacher is extremely satisfying, it also has its challenges. You have to adhere to industry protocols and assure you maintain discipline among students. Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each student, family and staff member you interact with. You also maintain proper professional boundaries at all times. You must display exemplary behavior and follow employee guidelines as all of our team members are a direct beacon of the culture we have here at White River Academy. 

The ideal candidate should possess most, if not all of the following skills:

  • Self discipline and the ability to give feedback and work in a team environment

  • Communication skills with other adults and with children

  • Ability to authoritatively “hold the line” with patience and grace

  • Understanding of trauma in children, and the importance of steadiness for a child in their chaotic times

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates should have a Utah Educator License. Teachers should feel comfortable and be licensed to teach Junior and/or Senior High School. Valid teaching certificate or proof of pending graduation from an accredited university; Mild to Moderate Special Education endorsement preferred; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • Basic skills desired in teacher applicants include:

    • Classroom supervision and management

    • Assessment

    • Planning 

    • Organization

    • Evaluation

    • Time management

    • Interpersonal work habits

    • Professional collaboration with peers

    • Ability to apply a variety of instructional methodology with special populations

    • Sound written and oral communication

    • Record keeping

    • Decision making

    • Problem solving

  • 21+ years of age

  • Pass a background check

  • Pass drug screening

You will need to complete yearly training and be knowledgeable in ALL company trainings, including but not limited to:

  • Obtaining and providing proof of a current CPR and First Aid certification on a yearly basis.

  • Reading and signing the Code of Conduct annually.

  • Passing a yearly Criminal Background Check (BCI).

  • Reading and signing Employee Acknowledgement Form.

  • Attending meetings when necessary.
