Support Staff Job Description

White River Academy is seeking dependable, compassionate, and strong-minded individuals to join our team. Our staff work with male students ages 12–18 in a residential treatment setting, helping provide safety, structure, consistency, accountability, and mentorship in their daily lives.

Our team plays an important role in creating a stable and therapeutic environment for youth who may be struggling emotionally, behaviorally, academically, or relationally. Team members are expected to serve as positive role models while maintaining appropriate boundaries, supporting program expectations, and helping students navigate daily responsibilities and challenges.

The ideal candidate is patient, emotionally steady, and able to lead with both firmness and compassion. This position is well-suited for individuals who have experience working with teenagers, parenting, coaching, mentoring, or serving in youth-focused environments. A passion for helping struggling boys and the ability to handle conflict, defiance, emotional intensity, and challenging behaviors with professionalism are essential.

WRA Staff are expected to uphold the values and mission of White River Academy in all interactions with students, families, visitors, and coworkers. While this work is deeply rewarding, it also requires maturity, consistency, teamwork, sound judgment, and the ability to adhere to established policies, procedures, and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support male students ages 12–18 in a residential setting
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and consistent environment
  • Build appropriate mentoring relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Support daily routines, activities, transitions, and program expectations
  • Maintain discipline and accountability in accordance with program protocols
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and fellow staff
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Model appropriate behavior, emotional regulation, and professionalism
  • Document and communicate relevant student information as required
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral, emotional, and relational challenges
  • Support a culture of respect, safety, and personal growth

  • Understanding of trauma and the importance of consistency and stability for youth
  • A genuine desire to positively impact the lives of struggling boys

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening
